Since the 1990s, and particularly during the early years of the 21st century, global migration has increased dramatically as a result of armed conflicts, civil wars, political instability, economic hardship, and humanitarian crises across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and parts of Europe. Millions of people have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety and protection.
